Your Quick Start Guide to Corporate Headshots
Hey there! So, you’ve got a headshot session coming up—exciting! I know having your photo taken can sometimes feel a little daunting, but don’t worry. My job is to make you look and feel your best, and this blog will help you prepare so you can walk in confident and ready to shine. Let’s dive in!
Finding the Studio
First things first, let’s make sure you can find me! My studio is located inside Clavering House (NE3 3NG) and it’s super easy to get to. You can use this Google Maps link to plan your journey. If you’re curious about what to expect, check out this quick video tour on Instagram to see the space before you arrive.
There’s parking nearby and great public transport links, so getting here is a breeze. Just come on in and I’ll take care of the rest!
What to Expect
When you arrive, you’ll find a warm and friendly space (and a warm and friendly me!). We’ll chat a bit to help you feel at ease, and then we’ll get started. I’ll guide you through the whole process—from adjusting the lighting to showing you how to pose—so you’ll never feel unsure about what to do.
Want a sneak peek? Here’s a behind-the-scenes photo of me doing my thing so you know what it’s like during a session. It’s all about having an enjoyable experience and getting great results.
How to Prepare
A little prep goes a long way. Here are some quick tips:
- Sleep: Get a good night’s sleep the night before—you’ll look and feel refreshed.
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water leading up to your shoot for healthy, glowing skin.
- Plan Ahead: Lay out your outfit the night before so you’re not rushing.
- Relax: Arrive a little early to settle in and get comfortable.
What to Wear
This is one of the questions I get asked the most, so let’s break it down:
- Company Guidelines: If your workplace has a dress code or preferred style, it’s a good idea to follow that. Double-check with your team if you’re not sure.
- Be Yourself: You want your headshot to reflect who you are. Choose something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
- Client-Facing Clothes: Think about what you’d wear if you were meeting a client. That’s usually a safe and professional choice.
Some companies want to avoid busy patterns or super bright colors that might steal the spotlight from their team or branding. Solid, neutral tones are your best friends here. However patterns can also add character and individual personality so I celebrate this in portraiture! Again, check with the organiser of the shoot as to appropriate dress.
Hair, Glasses, and Makeup
Let’s talk details:
- Hair: Style it how you normally would for an important day. If you need a quick touch-up, bring along any products or tools you like to use. I also have beauty products and straighteners at the studio!
- Glasses: If you wear glasses every day, definitely wear them in your headshot! Just give them a good clean beforehand to avoid any grubby marks.
- Makeup: Keep it natural and polished. Bring along some basics for touch-ups during the session, just in case. Try to avoid too much highlighter as it reflects flashlight. Matt powder is a better finish.
