Take Me Out! Thames TV comes to the studio

Well this was particularly exciting having a film crew in my studio! ‘Take me Out’ came to here to film Chris a model from Newcastle, one of those brave (and maybe slightly insane) men who put themselves up for a pop at the ladies, a bit of Paddy loving and a potential trip to ‘Fernandos’… (hmmm me thinks it might have another name…)

So here is where I come in.. I was the photographer who was simulating the model shoot with Chris. It was a huge laugh and actually I shot for real whilst being filmed and captured some pretty nice shots, so below are a few behind the scenes and the portfolio I captured for Chris on set.

The programme screened before Christmas and yes I was on that massive screen as the ladies contemplated…  “no likey, no lighty……” but blink and once again, you’d miss me!

More! Magazine’s Christmas in Newcastle

In the freezing cold last week Sam Sparks, my new assistant (cool name eh?) and I went in search of festive photography in Newcastle city centre. The brief from More! magazine was to find, ladies shopping between 18 & 25 and general shots of the Christmas markets & lights and picturesque areas of the town centre.

Despite the hurdles of ugly regeneration scaffolding at every turn and frozen fingers, so numb I found it difficult to control the camera, we captured some lovely sparkly Christmassy images. The issue is out this week and features a mix of my images with readers one too, including a truly hideous one my daughter Daisy supplied of us looking crazy with a snowman- thanks Daisy. Its clearly not always fab having a daughter working in publishing.

The Kings Arms, Heineken Pub Awards Finalist

Last month I was touring the UK photographing a mammoth 27 (yes…. TWENTY SEVEN!!) Heineken pubs for their annual awards ceremony. I could see immediately why this pub had been shortlisted as soon as I arrived.

It’s strength was in the Marketing category as owners Paul & Robert are super up to date with social networking, website presence and promoting their themed fancy dress nights. What a totally welcoming and cosy pub this is! It was a pleasure to arrive here one drizzly October day and Paul and Robert were extremely accommodating and friendly, clearly loved by the locals for offering fantastic food and coffee during the day and fun and frolics at night!

If you are in this neck of the woods please drop by, its really, really worth a visit; http://www.kingsarmssuttoncoldfield.co.uk/index.php/

AXA Healthcare Campaign

You may have recently seen the AXA Healthcare campaign on Channel 4, launched by digital agency Realise this month featuring the specialist cancer care staff from Bushtree Cancer Hospital in Elstree.

It was my role to capture portraits of the staff on location during the filming of the documentary style interviews. These images accompany those by portrait photographer Alex Telfer who created the powerful hero portraits that head the campaign.

It was incredibly eye-opening working with these people in this environment. You can view my images of these inspiring people on the homepage of the AXA Healthcare website at http://www.axappphealthcare.co.uk/

The Realise Group http://www.realise.com/ have beautifully executed this by bringing increased awareness to the ‘Stand up to Cancer’ campaign. For anyone who is affected by cancer, it’s worth a quick online visit this week as there is support and advice offered via live on line chats with the hospital staff.

The Olympic Journey, Royal Opera House, London 2012.

This summer I was involved in an incredibly exciting project! I was to document the installation of The Olympic Journey exhibition sponsored by BP for the London Olympics 2012 at The Royal Opera House. Oh yes!

The 3D design and communication was developed and realised by Hypsos who created a breathtaking concept with fresh graphics and beautiful typography. After months of design, printing and preparation finally it was time to deliver. The constructions for this amazing installation spread across several rooms in The Royal Opera House. The 100 strong Dutch team of construction workers, project managers and designers were poised at midnight to start straight after the last curtain call at the Royal Opera House in an amazingly tight 36 hour turnaround.

Over the next two days I documented the arrival, the overnight installation and then the finished exhibition before it opened to the public. When it opened I was lucky enough to have a live tour capturing the public viewing the medals, torches, artifacts and spectacular projections across huge suspended ribbons.

The staff at the Royal Opera House were so helpful and jolly and the spirits though out the Hypsos team were utterly impressive as they delivered smoothly, on time and with amazing results! To find out more about Hypsos location, work and recent projects visit http://www.hypsos.com/
